Making Your Credit Card Work for You

When it comes to banking products, the CUA team knows how important it is to choose products that can set you up for success. Credit cards are no exception. In fact, we offer a line of credit cards that feature many rewards and benefits. Here are some tips on how to make your credit card work for you:

Choose the right card
Choosing the right card means ensuring it best suits your needs and financial objectives. To do this, get to know that card's features before you sign up. This includes the interest rate, annual fee and any penalties for exceeding the card limit.

If you're interested in a card that offers rewards, we recommend choosing a card that best works for your lifestyle so you can leverage the rewards. For example, if you're a frequent traveller, choose a card that can earn you points to get you closer to your next trip. Or, choose a cash back card if you're interested in earning cash back on your everyday purchases, like gas or groceries.

Review your statements regularly
It's easy to check your credit card activity and balance by going to the card website and logging into your account. We recommend logging in at least a few times a month to keep close tabs on your spending. Similarly, staff at any of our branches can let you know the current status of your accounts. Just ask during your next branch visit!

Make a plan for repayment
By paying your credit card bill on-time and in-full, you'll keep your credit card in great standing and will avoid paying interest. We understand that sometimes, life happens and it may be difficult to pay your full credit card balance. We recommend establishing a repayment plan so that the balance can be paid off over several months, if not all at once. Alternatively, if you are unable to pay the balance off in-full, consider using another credit product, such as a line of credit, as the interest rates are usually than on a credit card.

If you're feeling frustrated and are having trouble making your monthly credit card payments, or are feeling like you don't have any spending money each month, CUA can help. We will provide you with simple, easy-to-follow advice to help you manage your finances. And, don't forget to check out our line of credit cards! With a range of options to choose from offering value and convenience, we're confident we can help you find a card that best suits your needs.
