Finding Your Way to Save

With summer fast approaching, and now having officially reached the half-way mark of 2023, it’s a great time to revisit the financial goals many of our members set for themselves this year. In my January message, I spoke about creating strong financial resolutions, and what steps you could take to set yourself up for success. With many financial goals, a little bit of saving can go a long way towards hitting your target.

A recent poll saw 37% of Canadians share their preference for saving in a high-interest savings account (HISA) this year, nearly tied with 36% who plan to save in a tax-free savings account (TFSA). Whether your goal is an upcoming vacation, a renovation, or even going back to school, there’s a way to save that will work for you.

As I’m sure you know by now, 2023 is an exciting year for everyone at CUA with the celebration of our 75th Anniversary. To take advantage of our beautiful Nova Scotian summers, our Better Way Street Team has some exciting pop-up appearances planned around the HRM over the next two months. Paying homage to our establishing year of 1948, we’ll be hosting the CUA Carnival, a family-friendly experience with the vintage feel of a 1940s fair. You can try your hand at our Strongman Financial Strength game, have your fortune told by our Financial Fortune Teller or drop by for snacks and prizes. Keep an eye on our social media channels to find out where our Team will be popping up next.

Another celebration we’re pleased to be joining is the Halifax Pride Festival from July 20 – 30. This is such an important time of year, where we commemorate how many barriers have already been broken, but also acknowledge the work still needed to achieve an equitable society, regardless of gender or sexual identity. At CUA, our goal is to provide a place where every voice matters. We work hard to address each member’s unique needs with caring and integrity, and encourage each individual to gain the knowledge and confidence necessary to reach their full financial potential.

At the end of June, we invited some of our branch visitors to participate in our Pride Photo Booth. We’re turning those pictures into a collage, which you’ll be able to see on our website and on posters in each of our branches during Pride Week. In doing so, we are supporting and showing our solidarity with our members, friends and neighbors in the LGBTQ+ community. We wish a very happy Pride to all of our members.
