Resolutions and Retirement Planning

I’d like to begin this message by wishing a Happy New Year to all of our members! Once the clock hits midnight, many of us begin looking ahead and making resolutions for 2024; for some of us, this may mean getting a gym membership, creating a budget, or trying, however reluctantly, to drink less caffeine. I’d encourage you to think beyond 2024 and develop a long-term goal that will carry you not only through this year, but maybe even a few more decades.

Our CUA team regularly tells our members that it’s never too early to plan for retirement. In fact, a recent report suggests that 25% of adult Gen Zers are already planning to retire before the age of 55. And though retirement often sounds further away than it actually is, getting a head start on your saving and investing will give you the financial independence to retire stress-free. CUA has a number of products that can assist you with planning for retirement, including our Registered Retirement Savings Plan and Tax-Free Savings Account.

CUA also offers a variety of resources when it comes to your financial wellness, including our CUAdvice articles. You can explore our previous retirement articles  to answer any pressing questions you may have about planning for your future. As you make plans to see your financial resolution become a reality this year, reach out to book an appointment with a financial advisor any time.

For many organizations and businesses in Nova Scotia, their financial resolutions may look a little bigger this year as they plan upcoming projects, programs or purchases. With that in mind, I’m excited to share that CUA’s Community Investment Grant Program is now open for applications. Each year, CUA provides direct funding to individuals, organizations, small businesses and social enterprises as part of this Program. For some inspiration, you may want to revisit the projects tackled by some of our previous grant recipients. With $100,000 in funding available, this year’s five grant categories are: 1. small business; 2. community; 3. health, wellness and recreation; 4. sustainability; and, 5. arts and culture. Further details, including eligibility criteria and how to apply, are available on our website.

Going forward into 2024, from everyone here at CUA, we wish you well on your personal and financial resolutions. As always, if you have any questions about one of CUA’s products or services, please reach out to a member of our team at 902.492.6500, book an appointment online or email us at info@cua.com.
