Making Your Goals a Reality

I hope you’ve all been making the most of the longer days and warmer weather. This time of the year gives us so much to look forward to, including a chance to ‘clean up’ after winter, whether that be your home, your desk, or even your finances. Spring is a wonderful time to take a look at last year’s successes and put this year’s goals into perspective. One goal for many Nova Scotians this season will be managing credit card debt.

Credit card debt across the country has risen to over $93 billion, and a recent report found that the average monthly credit card spend for Canadians was nearly $2,450 in the third quarter of 2022. While this number may seem high to some, it’s important to remember that inflation has caused the cost of living to increase significantly, which means more individuals are relying on credit for their day to day expenses.

If you’re struggling to manage your credit card debt, remember that our team at CUA is here to help. Debt management can be stressful, but you don’t have to face it all alone. CUA also offers a range of resources for tackling debt, including our CUAdvice articles. If you have questions about your credit card or would like to discuss strategies for paying off your debt, please reach out to a member of our team.

In recent news, I’m excited to share that we have selected our 2023 Community Investment Grant Program Recipients. The Program received 381 applications this year, each of which were exciting, inspirational, and showcased an exceptional commitment to strengthening our Province of Nova Scotia and its communities. Congratulations to all of our recipients and a big thank you to everyone who took the time to apply. I encourage you to take a look at our complete list of grant recipients to see what organizations are based in your community.

Finally, a reminder that you’re invited to CUA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) which is coming up on April 25. The AGM is a wonderful opportunity to hear about what we accomplished in 2022 and our plans for 2023, CUA’s 75th Anniversary year. Additionally, you’ll have the chance to win one of five $75 gift card prizes from CUA member businesses– our thanks for choosing the better way to bank! This event will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be held at Ashburn Golf Club, which is located at 3250 Joseph Howe Drive in Halifax. All CUA members are welcome to attend.

As always, if you have any questions about one of CUA’s products or services, please reach out to a member of our team at 902.492.6500 or info@cua.com.
