CUA's 2020 Community Investment Grant Program

Applications Open Until January 31, 2020

Thank you for your interest in CUA's Community Investment Grant Program. Now in its sixth year, the Program provides direct funding to projects, organizations and small businesses making a difference in communities across Nova Scotia. We are accepting applications until 4 p.m. on January 31, 2020.

Over the years, CUA has supported organizations of all sizes and in many sectors. What recipients share is a commitment to improve the lives and experiences of others. This year, we're excited to double our annual investment. A total of $50,000 will be awarded across three grant categories.

Grant Categories


Small Business
($25,000 available)

Supports the start-up or growth of locally-owned and registered small businesses or social enterprises in Nova Scotia.


Community and Non-Profit
($15,000 available)

Supports projects or initiatives led by community groups and/or non-profits in Nova Scotia.


Sports and Recreation
($10,000 available)

S
upports programs or initiatives that encourages Nova Scotians to participate in community sport, recreation and physical activities.
Applications will be open until January 31, 2020 at 4 p.m. Following a three-week evaluation period, recipients will be notified in late February before an announcement is shared publicly in March.

Criteria and Eligibility

Project Funding Principles:

Projects must demonstrate some or all of the following principles:

  • Promote equality, community-building, collaboration, diversity, community participation and self-reliance.
  • Enhance existing assets within a community.
  • Increase health and wellness through sport, education or community services.
  • Sustainability (economic or environmental).
  • Demonstrable community-wide benefits and/or transformation.
  • Potential to generate additional funding and/or community resources.
The grant is not intended for operation costs (such as staff wages or administration costs), or to support annual funding. In addition, we are unable to assist projects that:

  • Operate outside of Nova Scotia.
  • Have political or religious affiliations.
  • Are retroactive in nature.
  • Only benefit one individual.
  • Represent a conflict of interest for CUA.
