Reaching Your Financial Potential

As you may know, Financial Literacy Month takes place in November each year. Throughout this month, our team at CUA encourages individuals, businesses and community organizations to reflect on their financial well-being.

What you may not know is that financial literacy is one of the pillars of our Community Impact initiatives. We support and encourage individuals in our community to take positive financial actions through education and outreach, including online articles and tools such as CUAdvice, the Financial Health Index and the Goal Planning System (GPS). We also offer in-person sessions on important financial topics, such as buying a home, managing credit cards, planning for retirement and saving for education. These sessions are free and can be tailored to the needs of different groups. Members are also encouraged to keep an eye out this month as we prepare to host Financial Literacy trivia sessions at some of our commercial member locations. We’ll be giving away great prizes at these events, so make sure to brush up on your Financial knowledge. In the meantime, if you have questions about your finances, or would like to improve your financial literacy, please feel free to connect with a member of our team.

On November 3rd, we celebrated our annual Member Appreciation Day and invited all of our members to take part in online and in-branch festivities. We also drew winners for our giveaway, each of whom took home wonderful prizes, including the grand prizes of $1,000 cash and a $1,000 travel voucher. Thank you to everyone who participated and we look forward to celebrating with you again next year.

I’d like to take this opportunity to remind you to change your five-digit Personal Access Code (PAC) that you use to access online banking to a longer, alphanumeric password to provide enhanced security.  It only takes a few moments, and is easy to change through your online banking or on CUA’s mobile app. Starting on November 21st, you will be required to change your PAC before you are able to log in. Learn more about Enhanced PAC, including detailed instructions.

Finally, for members who may be interested in a role on our Board of Directors, I’m pleased to advise that the 2023 Director Nomination and Election Process is ongoing, with the nomination period closing on November 30th. Any interested and qualified members can put their name forward for consideration by completing the Nomination Form, which is included in the Director Nomination Package on our webpage.

CUA is proud to be a leader in financial literacy year-round, and we are committed to working with our members and the broader community to improve our Province’s financial well-being. I encourage members to connect with our financial advisors who can provide guidance to help you make decisions around your individual needs and circumstances. If you have questions about your finances, please reach out to a member of our team at 902.492.6500 or info@cua.com.
