Yes - one small word that has the power to create large, life-altering changes. Many of life’s milestones involve the word ‘yes’ and at CUA, we are proud to celebrate these moments. We celebrated when Emma and Marc received a ‘yes’ as we opened the door for the young couple to get into a new home. Or, when we said ‘yes’ to Johnathan Cannon who had an idea to start an online convenience store but was turned down at a bank where he used to work. These are just two examples of how we were able to remove barriers and support our members to help them achieve what matters most.
We strive to make our member’s financial goals a reality. Sometimes when there are obstacles that may prevent us from doing so, we are committed to providing the guidance to help that member get a ‘yes’ in the future. Understanding money matters is an important indicator of future financial outcomes and there is always room for improvement when it comes to this knowledge. In a recent poll, six in ten Canadians did not pass a basic test on financial literacy. Included in that survey was a question about credit, which showed that less than half of respondents understood that applying for a credit card could negatively impact their credit score.
We’ve all heard the saying, knowledge is power, and this is especially true when it comes to your finances. With a continued focus on financial literacy, we are pleased to launch Money Matters, a new online resource aimed at improving the financial health of our members and our community. We’ve put together engaging and informative content on a variety of money topics and each page includes useful tips, videos and articles to help our members expand their knowledge.
It is our hope that this valuable financial literacy resource will create more ‘yes’ stories to celebrate.
