As we move into a new season having just passed the spring equinox and shifted into Daylight Savings Time, it’s an ideal opportunity to evaluate your current financial situation. In the same way that we carry out ‘spring cleaning’ to refresh our homes, we can apply the same approach to our finances to evaluate and determine any changes we want to make.

Over the past month, we have seen the easing of COVID-related restrictions as announced by the Provincial Government. While we recognize that the pandemic is not yet over, it has been a welcome sight to observe individuals returning to some old routines, visiting family and friends, and visiting restaurants, shops, fitness centres and engaging in social events. This has been a much-needed boost for so many individuals and small businesses, as we have all weathered a challenging two years.

In the financial services sector, April is generally considered the “tax season” period, as both individuals and businesses finalize their tax returns for the previous year. We recognize that this can be a stressful time for many, particularly those that may end up owing more in taxes than expected or are targeted by tax hoaxes.
