CUA Grant Program Now Accepting Applications

$25,000 Available for Local Businesses and Community Organizations

Halifax, N.S. – Applications are now open for CUA’s 2019 Community Investment Grant Program.

As a Halifax-based banking institution, CUA understands that a small amount of money can have a big impact for projects, people and communities. CUA is pleased to be providing $25,000 in grants to support initiatives, organizations and businesses who are working in small business, community and non-profit as well as sports and recreation.

“We understand starting a new business or community initiative can be challenging,” says Marie Mullally, President & CEO of CUA. “Every little bit of financial assistance helps when it comes to expanding or launching a new venture. By supporting these projects, we are not only investing in an idea but in a desire to improve our community, resulting in positive effect on our economy.”

The program will see $25,000 distributed among three categories:

  1. Small Business ($15,000 available) – supports the growth or expansion of registered small businesses or social enterprises.
  2. Community and Non-Profit ($5,000 available) – supports projects or initiatives led by community groups and/or non-profit organizations.
  3. Sports and Recreation ($5,000 available) – supports programs or initiatives that encourage residents of any age to benefit from community sport, recreation and physical activities.
This is the fifth year CUA has offered this program. Over that time, investments have directly benefited 25 local businesses and initiatives. Businesses such as Halifax Paper Hearts, a graphic design studio that heart-makes cards and prints with love and care, and Tap, a local company who have developed an app along with a business and distribution strategy to reduce plastic bottles in landfills.

Businesses and community-based organizations who would like to apply for a grant are invited to complete the easy, online application form at www.cua.com/grants.  Applications will be accepted until 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2019.
