Meet Ross Bartlett

As a Financial Advisor at our South Park Street Branch, Ross shares his lifelong interest in financial literacy, advice he thinks every member should follow as well as his love of golf.

1. Where did you grow up, and can you highlight your educational background and professional experience?

I grew up in Lower Sackville. I attended Sackville High School and then graduated from Bedford and Forsyth Education Centre. I spent two years at the NSCC Ivany campus for business administration with a second-year focus in financial services.

2. What drew you to banking?

My mother and grandfather taught me the value of financial literacy from a young age. Seeing the need the average person has for financial advice made me interested in this career path.

3. What does a “regular” workday look like for you?

A regular workday for me includes working on lending applications and deposit requests. I also assist members with whatever issues, concerns or inquiries they might have.

4. What is the best part of your job?

Feeling that my knowledge and skill set have helped turn something that can seem daunting into a smooth, educational and positive experience for the member.

5. Since being in your role with CUA, what is the most valuable thing you’ve learned?

I’ve learned how important it is for members to truly understand the advice being offered to them, otherwise it isn’t helpful. Everyone communicates a little bit differently, so sometimes you might need to explain things in another way.

6. What is one piece of financial advice that you believe everyone should follow?

Automated savings. People can have a tricky time putting part of their paycheques into a savings account when they’re considering all their upcoming expenses. Automating the savings process so that the money is moved as soon as it arrives will ensure the transfer happens on time, every time, and helps avoid spending outside of your budget.

7. Outside of your professional life, what is your favourite activity or hobby?

I enjoy hanging out with friends in my spare time, whether it be wing nights or golf on the weekends.

8. What is your favourite meal to cook at home or order at a restaurant?

I enjoy trying out many of the great restaurants in the area.
