Meet Lynn Hatt

As a Financial Services Representative at our Tantallon Branch, Lynn tells us about her various roles at CUA over nearly 22 years, as well as her favourite pastimes and hobbies.

1. Where did you grow up, and if you moved to the Halifax area, what brought you here?

I have lived in Boutilier's Point all my life, which is approximately 40 minutes from Halifax.

2. Can you highlight your educational background and professional experience, as well as what drew you to banking?

I have my Grade 12 certificate. I worked as a cashier for four years, and then from 1977-2001 I worked at another financial institution. I was drawn to banking because math was one of my favorite subjects in school. I joined CUA in July 2001.

3. Since joining CUA, what other positions have you held?

I started as a part-time Financial Services Representative (FSR), then I moved into a full-time role with the Customer Contact Centre. I was also backup for Collections when needed, as well as a Branch Administrator at our Tantallon Branch. I worked as a full-time FSR at our Civic Branch until I decided to semi-retire in July 2019. Now I work part-time as an FSR at our Tantallon Branch.

4. What is the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is the member contact and providing great service.

5. Since being in your role with CUA, what is the most valuable thing you’ve learned?

The two most valuable things I’ve learned is how to work with others as a team and time management skills.

6. What is one piece of financial advice that you believe everyone should follow?

I think everyone should start saving early for retirement and also have a separate account opened for emergency funds.

7. Outside of your professional life, what is your favourite activity or hobby?

I like to read, knit, and play crib and Auction Forty-Fives with my friends. I love bowling and baking, and I also enjoy walking when I have time and the weather is good.  With regard to sports, when I was growing up, I loved to skate, toboggan and play broomball. I love to watch baseball, hockey and football, and sometimes a NASCAR race. I also love to watch my grandson's hockey and baseball games.

8. Do you perform volunteer or community work (boards, committees, sports, etc.) and if so, what?

If I believe in the cause, I will certainly volunteer my time. I have been donating blood and plasma since the 1970s, and many years ago, I was a Neighbourhood Block Parent.

9. What is your favourite meal to cook at home or order at a restaurant?

If I cook at home, I like to make a one pot meal, such as chili, stew or soup. When I’m ordering at a restaurant, my favorite meal is pasta, and anything chocolate for dessert.
