Meet Jaiden Decaire

As a Financial Services Representative at our Tantallon Branch, Jaiden tells us about his love of economics and finance, snowboarding and providing exceptional service to members.

1. Where did you grow up and if you moved to the Halifax area, what brought you here?

I grew up in Sackville, Nova Scotia.

2. Can you highlight your educational background and professional experience?

My education and chosen field of study are economics and political science. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with a Minor in Political Science from Acadia University in 2022. My previous professional experience prior to coming to CUA includes a junior accounting role and then working in Logistics with the Canadian Armed Force.

3. What drew you to banking?

I love finance and working with money, and I thought this would be a great opportunity to gain working knowledge of the industry. I also really liked that CUA is a Nova Scotian company.

4. Since joining CUA, what other positions have you held?

Since joining the CUA team I have been a Financial Services Representative at CUA’s Tantallon branch, which is where I am now.

5. What does a “regular” workday look like for you?

Usually, a day at work for me includes processing daily reports, balancing treasury and the ATM, providing services to members as well as processing new account applications.

6. What is the best part of your job?

I love being able to see the difference we make in our members’ lives by providing them with exceptional service, which often goes above and beyond what other banking providers choose to do.

7. Since being in your role with CUA, what is the most valuable thing you’ve learned?

The most valuable lesson has been through learning about the variety products and services that CUA offers to members. It really opened my eyes to the different opportunities we can provide to help individuals with a diverse range of financial needs.

8. What is one piece of financial advice that you believe everyone should follow?

I’ve always loved the old saying “scared money doesn’t make money.” It means that you ultimately have to make a decision on what to do with your money; if you hide it away under your mattress, it just depreciates in value. It’s important to educate yourself on your options and always talk to your financial advisor if your have questions.

9. Outside of your professional life, what is your favourite activity or hobby?

I love to snowboard in the winter and skateboard when the weather is nice.

10. What is your favourite meal to cook at home or order at a restaurant?

I’ll always order a steak or prime rib.
