1. Where did you grow up and if you moved to the Halifax area, what brought you here?
I was born in Digby NS to a military family, moving from the east coast to the west coast and back again. I attended high school in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I also married a military member, so we moved quite a bit. I have been back in Halifax for 12 years, the longest that I have ever lived in one place!
2. Can you highlight your educational background and professional experience?
I attended three high schools in two years: Dartmouth High, Grand Centre High School in Alberta, and Rampart High School in Colorado. I later attended NSCC Annapolis Campus, where I completed my Mutual Fund Representative license and Branch Compliance Officer course with the Canadian Securities Institute, as well as a Professional Financial Planning Designation. I joined the CUA family in September 2022, after working with another financial institution for 31 years in various roles, including Branch Manager, Assistant Manager, Manager of Personal Banking, Financial Advisor, and Investment Retirement Specialist.
2. What drew you to CUA?
I wanted to work for a company where I could have a direct impact on the day-to-day workings of the branch, the community and truly have a significant impact on the members.
4. What is the best part of your job?
My team, not only in the branch but throughout CUA. The support and collaboration that I have received from the CUA team is outstanding!
5. How would you describe your management style?
I prefer to coach and mentor. I believe every interaction is a learning opportunity.
6. What is one piece of financial advice that you believe everyone should follow?
My advice for all of my clients is to pay yourself first. It is never too early to start investing, whether it be in a savings account, TFSA or RRSP. Always seek advice from your financial advisor when making financial decisions to ensure that you are getting the best guidance.
7. Outside of your professional life, what is your favourite activity or hobby?
I love to spend time with my family and my two golden retrievers; we often go hiking and swimming in the summer. I also love reading and travelling to see new parts of the world.
8. Do you perform volunteer or community work (boards, committees, sports, etc.) and if so, what?
I think that it important to support the homeless living in Nova Scotia. I have donated Christmas stockings, hats and gloves to the Men’s Shelter in Halifax over the past few years. As well, in the past I have volunteered with Run for the Cure, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Blue Nose Marathon.
9. What is your favourite meal to cook at home or order at a restaurant?
Pizza, of course!
