1. Where did you grow up, and if you moved to the Halifax area, what brought you here?
I grew up in the beautiful country of Jamaica and relocated to Nova Scotia in late 2019.
2. Can you highlight your educational background and professional experience?
My Undergraduate degree is in Accounting and my professional license is in Insurance, Investments, and Business Banking. I’ve spent my 12 professional years between Auditing, Operations, Administration and Banking in varying roles from Customer Service Advisor, Business Banking, Insurance Advisor and Financial Advisor.
3. What drew you to banking?
I was drawn to banking because of my passion for people. I love engaging with our members daily.
4. Since joining CUA, what other positions have you held?
Since joining CUA I’ve been in the Financial Advisor role, and I’m currently at the Wyse Road Branch.
5. What does a “regular” workday look like for you?
I don’t usually have a regular workday, but generally it starts with reviewing various reports, preparing for an in-person or virtual member meeting, then working through varying types of credit applications or Investment Portfolio reviews.
6. What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is adding value to the lives of our customers daily. Whether this comes via simply helping them navigate difficult financial times or creating a solid investment portfolio, it all comes down to helping them achieve their financial objectives in the most effective way.
7. Since being in your role with CUA, what is the most valuable thing you’ve learned?
People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. Relationships matter the most to our members.
8. What is one piece of financial advice that you believe everyone should follow?
The simplest financial advice I believe everyone should follow is to always plan for the unexpected. Always protect your assets for the benefit of not just yourself but your loved ones.
9. Outside of your professional life, what is your favourite activity or hobby?
I enjoy the outdoors. From travelling, cruising, hiking, chasing waterfalls, and just navigating this beautiful country, I’m always ready for the next adventure.
10. What is your favourite meal to cook at home or order at a restaurant?
I enjoy cooking as much as I enjoy dining out. If I’m home, my favourite meal to cook is ackee and saltfish. If I’m dining out, I can’t resist a good T-bone or rib steak.
