Ambroise Matwawana, the meaning of home is clear when you ask him about his journey to Canada. Fleeing from the Congo war in the 1970s, Ambroise and his family came to Nova Scotia where they could finally settle and explore opportunities. His passion for soccer took him to other parts of North America, finding love and life along the way.
Eventually, Ambroise came back to Halifax and for the past seven years, he’s lifted the spirits of shoppers, visitors and staff at the Halifax Shopping Centre as a member of the security team. With a smile both warm and wide, he often leaves a lasting impression of Halifax upon tourists from all over the world. Viewing his role as a public service, Ambroise knows the mall’s frequent flyers by name, and takes an interest in what's happening in their world.
Relationships, as he notes, are the most important part of his life, which is why his fondness for CUA is no surprise.
As a place where he does his banking, Ambroise loves walking into CUA's Annex branch on Mumford Road and catching up with staff, who he considers extended family. After all, with a flexible, common sense approach, CUA helped Ambroise achieve his dream of owning a home for himself and his children by the time he was 50. "I went to CUA because they always have a solution," he says. "They can actually make things happen for you. This is what I have hoped for all my life - I was able to acquire a home."
Looking forward, Ambroise remains confident that his financial future is bright because of CUA's flexible and personalized service, and an ability to open the door to what matters most.
