The CUA Carnival

Inspired by CUA’s establishing year of 1948, this summer our team held a number of CUA Carnivals around the HRM! These pop-up style celebrations recreated the vintage feel of a 1940s fair in honour of our 75th anniversary.

Our first event took place at the Alderney Landing Farmers’ Market in July. In the early morning, the Better Way Street Team set up on the Dartmouth waterfront and enjoyed a full day of visitors.

Marketgoers of all ages tried their hand at our Strongman Financial Strength game, with a number of guests ringing the bell and winning prizes. Our younger attendees sat almost perfectly still at the face-painting station, transforming into little butterflies, rainbows, and zombies before heading to the cotton candy and popcorn stands.

At the Halifax Brewery Farmers’ Market in August, a number of visitors had their fortunes read by our Financial Fortune Teller, who shared exciting predictions for the future. Guests had their photos taken at our Canadian Currency Photobooth, and many took home a polaroid souvenir to remember their day at the Carnival!

The Gottingen Street Festival gave us the perfect sunny day to end our Carnivals. Our team said ‘goodbye’ to summer with an afternoon of fun activities and visits from our community members. So many amazing vendors attended the festival, and we were thrilled to have taken part in the day!

A big thank-you to everyone who attended our pop-up Carnivals, and to the Alderney Landing Farmers’ Market, the Halifax Brewery Farmers’ Market, and the North End Business Association for making our events possible.
