The leaves are beginning to change colour and fall, signalling a change in season as summer is coming to an end. During the past few months, Nova Scotia has emerged as one of the provinces with the most substantial surge in hiring intentions in the country, an indicator of positive change for our economy. The driving force behind this growth is the small business sector, as it represents 98% of total employers in Nova Scotia.
October is small business month, a time that celebrates the important contributions that entrepreneurs make in our local community. With nearly 30,000 active small businesses spread across the province, they are at the very heart of our economy. This month we encourage members to take the time to say “thank you” to a small business owner by choosing to purchase their products or services. The choices we each make as an individual matter, and together we can have an incredible impact through consciously spending money at Nova Scotia-owned small businesses.
In addition to positively impacting Nova Scotia’s economy through intentional spending, you can also share your feedback about CUA through our Annual Member Survey. The input we receive helps us to create, deliver and improve upon the products and services our members have come to expect. The survey is available until October 13th and by participating, you will be entered into a draw to win a $1,000 cash prize.
Last, as we continue to champion small business, we also want to celebrate our members. On Thursday, November 4th, join us for our annual CUA Member Appreciation Day. The day will involve several giveaways online, including a grand prize draw of $1,000 cash and additional prizes such as a Nova Scotia winter getaway for two and a Neptune Theatre package. We are excited to celebrate with you that we are starting early — each Friday, we’ll be giving away two gift cards to Nova Scotia-owned businesses, starting October 8th.
Celebrating others is a way to show your appreciation and support, and it builds a stronger sense of community. If you are looking for more ideas on how to better support local businesses, take a look at our CUAuthors article Ways to Support Small Business.
