Having the Right Tools for the Job

Warmer weather is approaching and as the sun comes out, Nova Scotians have been showing up. The execution of the vaccine rollout has provided optimism that an end to the current health crisis is in sight and that an economic recovery will follow. It’s indisputable that vaccines are a vital tool in stopping the spread of COVID-19 and so far, more than 60% of the province has received one or more doses. I am struck by the resilience expressed among our customers, team members and all Nova Scotians. If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that we’re all connected, and each of us has a role and responsibility to play in the outcome of our communities and ourselves.

As a leader, it’s important to recognize the interdependence of all aspects of our health. What is particularly “close to our heart” is our members’ financial health. We know financial health impacts our ability to be well in other areas of life. In a recent Government of Canada report, it indicated that if individuals are dealing with financial stress, they are twice as likely to report poor overall health and four times as likely to suffer from sleep problems, headaches and other illnesses. CUA takes an active leadership role in financial literacy to ensure that members and the larger community are empowered with the knowledge and tools they need to lead financially healthy lives.

To support financial health and well-being, we are pleased to launch our Financial Health Index, which is based on an eight-question quiz, to help you understand where you are financially. No matter what your score is, the goal is to optimize your financial health based on your individual situation. Along with your score, you’ll be provided a guide with a recap of your answers compared to the answers that receive the highest score. We encourage members to put this knowledge to work and connect with one of our expert financial advisors who can provide guidance to help you make decisions around your individual needs and circumstances.

If you have questions about your financial health score or how to achieve your financial goals, connect with a member of our team online, by phone at 902.492.6500 or via email at info@cua.com. On behalf of the entire team at CUA, thank you for your continued business. This last year has been challenging for us all and I want to assure you that we are committed to support you, our employees and our communities.
