Spending Time and Money at Home

Spending is an important part of your monthly budget. More often we talk about working toward your goals, like saving and investing or debt repayment, but do we consider the ways that we’re spending our money?

During the summer months, many people experience higher than normal spending as they plan and take vacations. Travelling often comes with a high price tag, no matter the time of year. To combat that, we see more and more people skipping the cross-country road trip and spending time exploring their own backyard. Not only can a staycation save money in travel expenses, but it allows you to experience what our beautiful province has to offer.

In fact, not only can a staycation deepen the love you have for the place you live but focusing your spending habits in your own community makes a big economic difference. You are also helping keep people employed. In Nova Scotia, 74.7% of private sector employees work at a small business. By prioritizing spending at small businesses, you create a lasting and rippling effect of support for your neighbours, community and family.

Banking at CUA creates similar results. CUA’s profits are invested back into programs, services and initiatives aimed at improving the overall member experience. Our impact extends beyond our members to the broader community as well. We are committed to helping our customers, friends and neighbours reach their full financial potential and do this through a variety of ways including our annual Community Investment Grant Program, financial literacy workshops and a partnership with Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia.

If you are looking for ideas about how to spend your at-home vacation, you may find a few suggestions here. Now, if you have questions about how to do more with the money you have, a member of the CUA team would be pleased to help you.
