Celebrating 75 Years

The days are slowly but surely getting longer, and as we move through the end of winter, I thought I’d share another ray of sunshine: CUA is celebrating a milestone anniversary in 2023, as this year marks its 75th year in operation. As you may know, the organization was established in 1948 under the Dockyard Credit Union name, and since that time, CUA has experienced considerable growth thanks to members like you. Throughout the year, keep an eye out for exciting news, events and contests to celebrate #CUA75.

As one of the first anniversary activities, and a celebration of Valentine’s Day, our team has put together an exciting contest for members; our Love For CUA contest invites you to share what you love about banking with CUA. We invite you to share a favourite memory, a positive experience you had with one of our team members, or anything else that you love about the better way to bank. This contest closes February 17 and the winner will receive a $75 gift card to CUA member Nature Folk Wellness Studio. You can submit your entry through our online form or fill out a ballot at one of our branches.

You may have heard in the news recently that the Bank of Canada raised its benchmark rate to 4.50%, while indicating that rate increases will likely pause for now, giving the economy time to recalibrate. Though this is the most recent effort to fight soaring inflation, the cost of living is still currently outside the comfort zone for many families. If you’re feeling financial pressure, working on an updated budget might be helpful to keep your finances in order, as could setting up a meeting with one of our Financial Advisors to discuss CUA’s many product options designed to keep you in focused on your financial goals.

I’d also like to highlight that February is Black History Month, a time to acknowledge and celebrate the many foundational and continued achievements and contributions of Black Canadians to the nation’s history, culture and economy. Nova Scotia also recognizes February as African Heritage Month, representing an opportunity for all of us to uplift members of our African Nova Scotian community, both in February and year-round. Be sure to read our most recent Grant Recipient Profile on Tia Upshaw, founder and CEO of Blk Women in Excellence, where she discusses the work her organization does to educate, encourage and inspire Black women entrepreneurs in Nova Scotia throughout their journeys.

Finally, applications for this year’s Community Investment Grant Program will be closing tomorrow, February 10, at 4:00 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity to tell us about the good work you or your organization are doing across our Province in support of stronger communities and a stronger economy. Visit our website for more information on how to apply.

As always, if you have any questions about one of CUA’s products or services, please reach out to a member of our team at 902.492.6500 or info@cua.com.
