We received a record number of submissions for the 2021 Community Investment Grant Program.  Once again, our Member Advisory Council was engaged in the selection process and we are pleased to share the successful recipients, who are all creating a positive social and economic impact.

The recipients of the 2021 Community Investment Grant Program include:

Small Business

Bailly Cosmetics Inc. – a $10,000 grant will enable an “Asthma & Allergy Friendly Certification” for their new line providing a safe, healthy alternative to perfume for those suffering from asthma and allergies.

Shivani’s Kitchen – a $10,000 grant will be used to purchase a blast freezer to increase capacity to expand production and the potential for export.

Chain Yard Cider Inc. – a $7,500 grant will result in the purchase of a NS-manufactured “fizz whizz” carbonation system and canning equipment for improved on-site production in their North End Halifax location.

Tuckamore Homestead Inc. – a $7,500 grant will be used to purchase mechanical equipment for honey extraction to further address food insecurity of Potlotek First Nation.

Zoe’s Ferments – a $5,000 grant will be used toward the purchase of a commercial cabbage shredder, production improvements and website design.

Sustainability

Button Brook Farm – a $10,000 grant will be used to purchase the materials and install a Climate Battery that extracts heat from soil to heat greenhouses, producing certified naturally grown greens to Nova Scotians through the winter months.

Greenii Inc. – a $8,500 grant will be used to purchase a rotary paper sheeter machine to help improve production efforts.

Solar Schools Canada – a $1,500 grant will support the purchase of an e-bike, trailer and helmet to facilitate delivery of Hope Bloom products, preventing emissions, promoting urban transportation and connecting residents with locally grown food products.

Health and Wellness

South Shore Sexual Health Centre – a $5,000 grant will be used to make possible gender affirming equipment for youth who face barriers to purchasing the necessary equipment to fully express their identity. Read their grant update »

Fortress Senior Citizens Club – a $5,000 grant will be used to purchase exercise equipment to set up a new space for an inclusive, senior-focused recreational facility. It will provide opportunities to stay social and active beyond the traditional bingo and card games.

Glooscap First Nation Health and Healing – a $3,000 grant will be used to develop new signage to proudly identify the Trail and the valuable role it plays in the community for locals and visitors.

Halifax Transition House Association – Bryony House – a $5,000 grant will support the creation of a space to provide meaningful programming to women.

ElevateHER Mental Health Support Services Canada – a $5,000 grant will be used to purchase raw materials to enable clients to start production of products to sell, teaching entrepreneurial skills to women in poverty.
