Meet Laura Doane
At CUA, we pride ourselves on knowing our customers and having customers get to know our staff, including those who look after the day-to-day operations of our branches. We recently sat down with one of our staff members to help you get to know them as well.
As a Financial Advisor for over seven years at CUA, Laura shares with us her passion for helping her clients achieve their financial goals and her love of lattes.
1. Where did you grow up and if you moved to the Halifax area, what brought you here?
I grew up in the Annapolis Valley in the town of Kingston. I moved here initially to work for St. Mary’s University in the Certified Accountants Management Department for Long Distance Students.
2. Can you highlight your educational background and professional experience?
In addition to my position at SMU, I worked as Financial Advisor at another banking institution before coming to CUA seven and a half years ago.
3. What drew you to banking?
I saw the opportunity to use my financial background to help clients reach their financial goals, and that really appealed to me.
4. What does a “regular” workday look like for you?
Mortgages! They are the biggest part of what I do everyday.
5. What is the best part of your job?
Helping our members purchase their new home and helping to make that dream a reality for them.
6. Since being in your role with CUA, what is the most valuable thing you’ve learned?
The main thing I have learned is to listen to the stories of each individual. There are unique reasons for why they have come to CUA, and that story makes up so much of what their future goals are and how CUA can help to achieve them.
7. What is one piece of financial advice that you believe everyone should follow?
To find a bank that wants a long-lasting relationship and will help see you through each of your financial goals. The right bank will take the time to make sure they are helping you succeed and make wise decisions for your family. With CUA, members can expect to receive this personalized experience.
8. Outside of your professional life, what is your favourite activity or hobby?
My love for Disney is always going to be part of my everyday. I enjoy being in the Disney community and all the fun we have blogging and sharing!
As well, spending time with my family is a priority.
I’m also obsessed with Starbucks, so usually you will find me at my favourite location at some point during the week with friends or family. It’s always our meeting spot!
9. Do you perform volunteer or community work (boards, committees, sports, etc.) and if so, what?
YES! I love my Faith and enjoy the work we do for our community. We are always there to support one another, bringing hope, kindness and love to everyone.
10. What is your favourite meal to cook at home or order at a restaurant?
My favourite meal to cook will always be chili with my secret ingredients! But don’t let me fool you, there are only a few things I like to cook. I prefer a clean kitchen and my love for sandwiches is likely is due to them being easy, less messy and fast! And, of course, my love for ordering Starbucks is over the top!
