Holiday Wish List

As the autumn leaves begin to fall, many of us have started turning our attention to preparations for the Holidays.  Shopping for gifts is part of many Nova Scotians’ routines and while 2020 has thrown many surprises our way, let’s consider this an opportunity to shake up our gift-giving habits.  If you plan on giving, consider spending intentionally to support our economy by giving gifts from Nova Scotian-owned businesses.  If you’re considering scaling back your shopping efforts this year, we have a few ideas to help you give the gift of memorable experiences.

Not sure where to start? Take a look at our Holiday Wish List for suggestions:

Lost Cod Clothing – This Halifax based brand showcases true Nova Scotian pride with their unique designs and stories behind all of their products.  While their storefront is only open on the Halifax boardwalk seasonally, their online shop is open year-round and can ship anywhere.  Browse their collection for the special someone in your life starting with their Are ya a True Blue'noser Crewneck Sweatshirt »

Sattva Boutique – Located in the North End of Halifax, Sattva Boutique specializes in stylish, modern, high quality and socially aware products.  From wardrobe staples to beauty supplies and home wares, you can find something that fits in your lifestyle and budget, including stylish face masks.

The Posh Pearl – Located in Dartmouth, the Posh Pearl sells new or gently used consigned items so not only are you getting a deal, you’re doing your part to make eco-conscious purchases.  Because they operate on consignment, you never know what one-of-a-kind homewares treasures you may find by visiting them in-store or watching their Facebook page for daily updates.

Socially Distant Cookie Exchange – Instead of buying gifts this year, consider holding a cookie exchange with your kids, families or friends.  Not only will you have fun baking your cookies, you may even find a new family favourite to add to your regular Holiday baking routine.  Here are a couple of our favourite recipes.  Not a baker? We have a solution for that too.

Pilates Barre Halifax – Offering a variety of in-person and online Pilates, barre, yoga and meditation-based classes, the Pilates Barre Halifax has membership options that make them a wonderful gift for the person on your list who’s looking to get moving this winter.

Prime Strength Club – At Prime Strength Club everyone is welcome, from seasoned weightlifters to beginners.  If someone on your list is interested in staying active and building strength this winter, then consider purchasing a membership for them.

The Emera Oval – Looking for activities instead of gifts to give? Take a skate (or a bike ride – weather pending) around the Emera Oval this Holiday season.  It’s a great way to spend time outdoors, be active and enjoy one another’s company.

North Brewing Company – Is there a craft beer fan on your list? Consider perusing the selection from North Brewing Company.  Not only do they have a diverse collection of beverages to choose from, they also have merchandise available.  You can also shop online and pick it up yourself or arrange delivery.

Made in the Maritimes – You may be able to find something for everybody at this one-stop shop that features items from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick or Prince Edward Island.  You can browse their inventory online or visit them in one of their two Halifax locations.  They carry art, jewellery, housewares, gifts for children, books, food and much more

Christmas Lights – Make a hot chocolate, bundle up and take a stroll through your favourite neighbourhood to see Christmas light displays.  This free activity is sure to make you feel festive.  Before you set out, do a quick Google search for the best displays or check out this link.  There are several community groups that share lists of the best lit up neighbourhoods.
