Changing Habits

Banking is a choice that matters, not just for individuals and businesses but for the economy, which is one of the reasons I am proud to announce that we are the Halifax Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Banking Affinity Partner. This partnership will allow CUA to further support small businesses as they establish strong financial roots in Nova Scotia. As businesses change and grow in our community, the impact is felt throughout the economy and CUA is proud to be a part of that journey.

Sometimes the most positive things in our lives come from making a change. In fact, we know that making a change can be a process. Like we talked about last month, it isn’t as simple as pressing “reset”. In a recent survey, 45% of Canadians indicated that they don’t believe their bank account could withstand an unexpected expense, like a vet bill or car repair. For many, making small changes could make all the difference.

Consider some of your own habits and how they impact your life and your finances. For example, perhaps you love stopping for a morning coffee, buying new shoes or having a membership at an expensive health club but you put these expenses on your credit card each month. While this may seem like a habit you want to kick, as long as you factor these things into your budget and pay your credit card off in full each month, there is no reason to stop doing what you love. The habits you may want to consider changing are the ones that prevent you from paying your credit card bill off on time or, more importantly, from reaching your goals. However small or large these changes may be, CUA can help. Something as simple as changing the type of credit card you use could end up saving you money and getting you back on track.

Speaking of change, join us in making this the #SummerofChange. Watch out for the Better Way Street Team and the Mobile Branch in places that you may find yourself in need of change. If you’re in need of more change than cash to get on the bus, consider opening a Savings Account with a $50 monthly deposit. For the rest of summer, we’ll add $25 to your first deposit. If you would like to discuss change with a Financial Advisor, give us a call at 902.492.6500. We’re here to help.
